How to Buy From Amazon With Claude (2026)

Amazon gave Claude a plugin for sellers, not shoppers. Here is how to search Amazon, Walmart and Target from Claude, pay by card and track the order.

Short answer: Claude can buy from Amazon once you add a shopping connector. Add Zinc in Claude (Settings, Connectors, URL https://mcp.zinc.com/mcp), ask for a product, pick a result, and press Pay & place on the review card. Zinc places the order at Amazon, Walmart, Target or Best Buy, you pay by card, and tracking comes back into the chat. No Zinc account or API key is needed.

Search for "Claude Amazon" and most results are about Claude running on Amazon's cloud, or about Amazon's new Claude plugin for sellers. Neither lets you buy anything. This guide covers the shopper side: what Claude can do with Amazon today, how to set it up in two minutes, and what keeps it from spending money you didn't approve.

What "Claude and Amazon" means in 2026

Three different things get called "Claude and Amazon":

WhatWho it's forCan it buy for you?
Claude on AWS (Bedrock, Claude Platform on AWS)Developers running Claude in Amazon's cloudNo. It's hosting, not shopping
Amazon's Selling Partner plugin for Claude (September 2026)US Amazon sellersNo. It reads a seller's catalog and metrics and helps with inventory, prices and shipments
A shopping connector such as ZincShoppersYes. It searches, prepares the order, takes payment and tracks it

Amazon's own plugin is for the selling side. Sellers connect their accounts so Claude can read the catalog and real-time performance numbers, and help adjust prices or prepare shipments, with the seller approving each change. It doesn't place orders as a shopper.

For buying, Claude needs a tool that can check out at the retailer. That's what the Zinc connector adds.

What you need

  • Claude on the web, desktop or mobile. The buy button lives on an interactive card, and Claude renders those cards. Claude Code can search and read orders but has no button to confirm a purchase.
  • A card. You pay per order on a Stripe page. There's no wallet to fund first.
  • Nothing else. No Zinc account, no API key. Signing in is optional and only adds order history across conversations.

Add Zinc as a Claude connector

  1. Open Claude and go to Settings → Connectors.
  2. Find Zinc in the connectors directory and select Connect. If it isn't listed for you yet, choose Add custom connector, name it Zinc, and paste:
https://mcp.zinc.com/mcp
  1. Start a new chat. The Zinc tools appear in the tools menu. No sign-in is asked for.

That's the whole setup. Full client notes are in the connector docs.

Buy something: a full example

Type a request the way you'd ask a friend:

Find me whole bean coffee under $20, medium roast, that ships fast.

1. Search. Claude calls Zinc's search and shows a results card: products from Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy and more, with price, retailer and rating. Searching is free and spends nothing.

2. Review. Pick one ("the second one, 2 bags"). Claude prepares the order and shows a review card: the item, the estimated total (listed price, estimated tax, shipping and a $1.00 Zinc fee) and the hold that will be placed on your card. Nothing is charged yet.

3. Pay & place. Press Pay & place. A Stripe page opens in a new tab for your card, shipping address and phone number. Only the actual total plus the $1.00 fee is captured. The hold covers the estimate plus a margin, and the rest is released once the retailer order is placed.

4. Track. You get an order id in the chat and emails as the order is confirmed and ships. Ask "where's my package?" any time and Claude pulls the carrier checkpoints.

Why Claude can't spend on its own

The reasonable worry with any AI that can buy: what if it buys the wrong thing, or a web page tricks it into buying something?

The connector splits spending into two steps, and Claude can only do the first:

  • prepare-order draws the review card. It spends nothing.
  • place-order needs a confirmation token. The connector hands that token to the card on your screen and withholds it from the model.

So the only way an order gets placed is a person clicking Pay & place. A prompt injection hidden in a page Claude read can't become a purchase, because Claude never holds the token. Each confirmation is also tied to the exact items and price, expires after 10 minutes, and carries an idempotency key, so a double click or a retried request can't create a second order.

The connector also refuses restricted goods: weapons, tobacco and nicotine, prescription and regulated drugs, adult products and counterfeits.

Prompts that work well

  • "Find a stainless steel French press under $40."
  • "Order the Nike Dri-FIT tee in Large, blue. Make it two."
  • "Buy this, and don't spend more than $50 including shipping: [paste a product link]." A pasted link skips the search, and a budget you name becomes a hard cap: the order fails rather than going over it.
  • "Find a birthday gift under $40 for a 10-year-old who likes science."
  • "Where's my order? Any tracking yet?"

Limits worth knowing

  • US addresses only. You enter the address on the payment page, never in the chat, so Claude never sees it.
  • One retailer per order. A basket is placed at one retailer. Items from two retailers become two orders.
  • Cancellations and returns aren't in the connector yet. Those go through the Zinc dashboard or the API.
  • Tax is estimated on the review card. The destination isn't known until the payment page, so the card shows an estimate. You're charged the real total plus the fee, never more than the hold.
  • Some clients can't buy. Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code show results as text without the card, so there's no Pay & place button. For buying from a terminal or an automated agent, use the Universal Checkout skill or the API instead.
  • No restricted items, as listed above.

FAQ

Can Claude buy things on Amazon?

Yes, with a shopping connector. Claude on its own can recommend products but can't check out. With the Zinc connector added, Claude can search Amazon, prepare the order, and place it after you press Pay & place on the review card.

Is Amazon's Claude plugin for shoppers?

No. Amazon's Selling Partner plugin, announced in September 2026, connects a US seller's account to Claude for catalog data, performance metrics and seller tasks like pricing and shipments. It doesn't buy products for shoppers.

Do I need an Amazon account to buy from Amazon with Claude?

No. Zinc places the order and ships it to the address you enter on the payment page. You pay Zinc by card for the item total plus a $1.00 fee.

Can Claude spend money without asking me?

No. The tool that places an order needs a confirmation token that only the on-screen card holds. Claude can find and prepare an order, but a person has to click Pay & place.

Does this work in ChatGPT too?

Yes. The same connector works in ChatGPT. See how to buy from Amazon in ChatGPT.

What does it cost?

Searching is free. Each order costs the item total, shipping and tax, plus a $1.00 Zinc fee.
